(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 8)—The McKendree College hockey team had its three-game win streak snapped at home Saturday by Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, 6-2.
The Bearcats are now 5-5 overall with the loss. McKendree will hit the road for the first time in 2005-06 this weekend at Missouri State University. The Bearcats will play Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in Springfield, Mo.
In Saturday’s game, sophomore center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored both McKendree goals. His first tally midway through in the second period helped cut the McKendree deficit to 2-1. Roberts then tied the score at 2-2 with a power-play goal with just 51 seconds left in the stanza.
However, the Cougars pulled away with four goals in the third period. Jason Walker notched a hat trick for SIU-Edwardsville in the period, including two goals in a 29-second span.
Junior Marcus Power (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon) (O’Fallon, Ill.) made 44 saves in taking the loss for the Bearcats. McKendree was out-shot in the match, 50-26.
